Seven things you will want, and a few you won’t. Written for car camping, easy to adapt for a short hike-in.
Shelter, sleep, kitchen, light, layers, water, and a plan for the weather. If you have those, everything else is a luxury.
Pick a site near the car for the first night. If something goes wrong you are twenty steps from a fix, and that is a better way to learn.
